Character

I'm typical Basset; in home a calm and comfort-loving, outdoors lively and always ready for action. On the other hand my French temperament is surge up occasionally, in which case the other (people or dogs) should be more flexible.

From my early age I'm reviewed to know new things with courage, especially being in the forest and spending marine life. My attitude for people is open and confident. Some of the dogs and animals I have taken a slightly skeptical and sometimes even fearful. I become familiar just one dog at a time, if there are many new faces I rather want to go round on my own (sniff things). If the oncoming dog growls/barks, etc. I don't want to say hello, just go away my tail between my legs.

As a puppy I was open to all dogs and I would like to go in and say hello to each entrant. As I have getting older, however, I become aware of myself and I am no longer a source of pleasure play along - not even familiar dogs. In particular, young males will experience my contempt.

My floppy ears may cause hearing problems as regards commands. I am a fast learner, as long as the fee is in place. Angry dos and don'ts are not power on me, I appreciate more tight exhortation and praise in response to the right after. Food, I do not take frivolously. Only a couple of times I have left without eating because of sickness. So I eat everything which I get to my food bowl and a little more than that.

Activities

The best thing is to give a boost to hare in forest. If I have a hare on sight I'm almost screaming a joy of hunting. When I am chasing hare, I barks a lot, though otherwise I'm pretty quiet guy. My voice is dull and low. My Basset-yowl sounds very well to pass men. The yacht-yowl be bled to a standstill rabbit veins. A few catches are obtained, which is fixed my hunting will. I am running a fairly tough and when I have been loss the scent some kind of philosopher. "Hmm, to be or not to be a hare or perhaps hare's track or poop". Often I miss encouragement for the seeking and with my stare I ask permission of sight loss. Fresh tracks are totally different thing, and then I run without asking permission. In chasing and especially seeking and working after track loss is still much to do, but my basic hunting features are good.

Mejä (hunting dogs tracking test in Finland) is pretty much a fun hobby like the hare hunting. To tracking I get my first real feel for the young age and when the smell of blood began to mean the trace which can be followed in the forest, I show my excitement by dragging in tracking harness like as a bull in a field. The pilots have to learn how to drag yourself behind. Within a few tests I have been participated, but about 80 % of the hobby is solving tracks made by hostess and host. Always after tracking I'm very tired (but also happy), because working with the nose need big concentration.

The being boat and spending marine life is favorite hobby of host and hotess in summer, and therefore I was taught to love it. I sit on deck and smell sea breezes which bring scents from all around. The port is grilled sausage and in starboard is a sailing boat, which travels a familiar male dog. The best part is, however, the islands and landing guest boat harbors, where are new smells for the dog's nose. Boating as a hobby is closely linked to the bathing beaches or more correctly walking in shallow water. During hot summer day it is one of my favorite activity. I also like to pick up a stick from the water.

Health and grooming

I am very healthy adult dog that does not have any regular medication. The deworming has been given three times a year, because I like to eat all things outside. The estrous cycle has become a fairly regular basis about 6-8 months apart, when I'm pretty depressed and lethargic, but outdoor I leaving a lot of marks and smelled the male replies to my messages.

In December 2009, I had a so-called "cold water tail" which came when I gnawing the bone in my yard. In addition, in October 2010 it was found a stand-off in the right front feet, which was cut off and it was found the cutaneous histiocytoma, benign skin round cell tumor (which relapse is unlikely). At the turn of 2011-2012 was able to get some waspish intestinal bacteria and I went to the bad condition before the bacteria were brought under control with antibiotics. In summer 2012 European viper (Vipera berus) bite me and I was treated (viper serum, hydration and pain medication) in veterinarian emergency. In addition, the antibiotic regimen was started.

My fur is rough and it will stripe twice a year during the winter-spring and late summer (+ if necessary, cleaned up with furminator). Stripping is made in three installments, because I cannot stand still long enough. I'm not sure I like stripping or not, it is a miserable to be in place.

My coat is very weather-proof, at least in winter, when it is a bit of a lion's mane. The coat does not need to brush or otherwise care if it for some reason, become tangled (so far, this has not happened). When I was puppy they wash me quite regularly, because I liked the roll at any given place filthy and often I stank from itself. Today, they wash me with shampoo only rarely, generally paw washing with water is sufficient.
Claws are cut about every couple of weeks. As a puppy I had to get attack, when the first time for this operation began. Eventually, the host holds on and hostess cuts and I cried like going to slaughter. The neighbors did not come to help. Today, I can take oparation the more mature and close my eyes during it (the hostess is able to handle the operation alone).
